The Benefits of Self Care

The Benefits of Self Care

Essentials for inner wellness and outer beauty!

Scroll through your Insta and you’ll likely find an endless supply of self-care inspo, but in real life, watching self-care and practicing self-care are two very different things. Many of us hardly find time in our day to finish our to-dos, so prioritizing ourselves can be the most difficult task of all. And often, when we do take a moment to unwind, we feel guilty or undeserving of it.

Engaging in self-care means prioritizing yourself, and showing yourself compassion and love. When you don’t engage in self-care, you’re not building on these positive emotions, or worse, you’re teaching yourself that you’re not worthy of experiencing them. This, in turn, can negatively affect your self-esteem. Self-esteem is defined as confidence in one’s own self-worth and abilities. Simply put, it’s self-respect, which is one of the key factors in building confidence and self-esteem. And thus, acts of self-care and self-esteem are intrinsically linked.

These moments can be as big or small as you want them to be— a mini-meditation session, a full skincare routine with your favorite products, or watching a show you love. Engaging in self-care activities slowly helps you build a more positive relationship with yourself, and encourages you to regularly treat yourself with more kindness and compassion.

Struggling to make time for you? If you’re ready to add self-care to your life, here are three tips to work some confidence-boosting, stress-relieving moments into your day.

De-Stress with a Facial Massage:

Turn your moisturizer or face oil application into a soothing face massage. Just use sweeping motions to lightly massage your skin from the center of your face, outward and upward. Repeat on your forehead, then below your chin, and on your neck. Bonus: It helps boost circulation to up your glow!

Do Desk Chair Stretches:

Clasp your hands behind you, push your chest outward, raise your chin, and hold for 30 seconds. Repeat every time you’re feeling stiff, tired, or just need an energy boost.

Try a Soothing Scalp Massage:

While shampooing your hair, use your fingers or a scalp brush to gently massage your scalp, working from the nape of your neck to the sides of your head, then to the top of your head and crown. Bonus: This also helps boost circulation for a healthier scalp!
