6 Makeup Looks to Try in 2019 Ft. Tips From a Celebrity Makeup Artist

Out with the old and in with the new! The new year is the perfect time to update your style and try some new makeup looks. Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered. We pulled together the best beauty trends for the upcoming year with the help of New York based celebrity makeup artist Mark Phong. Holding similar to Dermelect's principles, Mark Phong also believes that simplicity and elegance are the defining factors of true beauty.

6 New Makeup Looks to Try in 2019

1. Coral Craze

Pantone recently announced that their 2019 color of the year is Living Coral. Coral is actual very versatile and can be worn with any skin tone, depending on the level of yellow, red, and brown incorporated into the shade.

Mark Phong particularly loves coral lipstick for events. “We can’t go wrong with a red or coral lipstick.” Try our 4-in-1 Smooth Lip Solutions in Audacious, which is a flattering, warm red. What's even better is that this satin-finish lipstick is a balm, stain, gloss and lipstick in one!

2. Natural Brows

You know those super-sculpted, overly done eyebrows you always see on Instagram? Well those were so 2018. This year will be all about emphasizing your natural brows’ beauty.

Mark Phong recommends trying REVITALITE Brow Transformer: “I like Dermelect brow products – they’re my number one go-to.” With two universal shades, this revolutionary brow tool color adjusts based on the pressure used to apply, which means that it works for everyone. The triangular tip also allows you to mimic the appearance of brow hairs to fill in any bare spots you may have in your arches in seconds.

Simply fill in your brows with the pencil side, then brush brows with the spooley side for a natural look. The result? Your brows, but better. And since this peptide-infused formula is waterproof, it will last all day!

3. Skipping Eyeliner

Who says that eyeliner is a requirement for any makeup look? Skipping the eyeliner in 2019 will make your eyes look more awake. Plus, not messing around with liquid eyeliner will buy you a few extra minutes every morning.

If you feel like your eyes won’t pop without eyeliner, try applying a small line of brown eyeshadow with a wet eyeliner blush. This makes eyelashes look longer without any harsh lines.

4. Blooming Blush

Blush will dominate makeup trends in a big way this year. Notice the 80’s inspired blush-sculpted cheekbones in editorials lately? Well, forget the deep bronze look, this year it’s all about peachy blush shades with a variety of applications all over the face. Apply the shade on the highs of your cheekbones, extending to the eyebrow bone and onto your lids.  We’ve also seen some beauty influencers applying blush to the tips of their noses to get that sun-kissed complexion!

For everyday wear, cream blushes are perfect for creating a natural glow. Don’t have any cream blush on hand? Pro tip - You can actually use lipstick instead! Try applying a small amount of 4-in-1 Smooth Lip Solution Lipstick in Intimate to the apples of your cheeks and you will be left with a pinky, effortless and gorgeous glow.

5. Unexpected Color

If you’re tired of wearing fifty shades of beige, you’re going to love this trend. In 2019 we will be using a lot more color, especially for our eye makeup looks. “[We’ll see] lots of colors, even for eyeliner and mascara. Like: pinks, purples, oranges, blue, etc... you can wear a color liner with black/brown mascara or you can also wear a bold color mascara as a statement for an everyday look,” says Mark Phong.

6. Dewy Skin

2019 will be all about embracing a more natural, healthy look with our skin. “Overly contouring, heavy foundation, and especially heavy highlight should be ‘glowed down.' I think makeup looks most beautiful on and off camera when it is applied in moderate amounts. When it is exaggerated, then it becomes too much,” says Mark Phong.

So, stop caking on the foundation and start amping up your skincare routine instead! If you can start with a beautiful canvas, the less makeup you'll actually need.

Mark Phong recommends using REVITALITE Eyelid & Dark Circle Corrector Professional Strength and EMPOWER Anti-Wrinkle Treatment for a dewy, youthful glow. For excess facial redness, try Redness Rehab Conceal and Correct. Then apply a sheer tinted moisturizer for allover naturally beautiful skin.

You will see that a little goes a long way with the REVITALITE Eyelid & Dark Circle Corrector Professional Strength. This 5-in-1 treatment works to decrease the look of puffiness, dark circles and under eye bags that frequently plague the eye area. This is my go-to product, especially for those sleepless nights and work the next morning. With light diffusing pigments and a cool tip applicator this eye treatment will instantly provide a well-rested, rejuvenated look!

I swear by our EMPOWER Anti-Wrinkle Treatment. I use it twice a day to fight any fine lines on my face that are bothering me. It always gives me the best hydrated feeling. We formulated this moisturizer with six active multi-peptides which will take your skin from dry and dull to velvety soft and glowing!

Our Redness Rehab Conceal and Correct is an ultra-light coverup that is going to give you an even complexion and neutralize redness. This treatment works for temporary flare-ups and eczema type skin and you'll see a little bit goes a long way. I love to use my beauty blender when applying. It allows the product to melt into my skin leaving me with a luminous, natural finish.
